Husky Boarding in Trivandrum — Built for an Arctic Dog in Kerala
A Siberian Husky in a regular Trivandrum kennel is a heatstroke waiting to happen. We turned away three Huskies in our first year before redesigning our cool-zone boarding programme. Today, Neolokam is the only farm in Malayinkil cleared to take double-coated arctic breeds in summer.
Three Things Every Husky Needs in Kerala
Heat tolerance is impossible to fake. Build for it, or refuse the breed.
Climate Control
Tile-floored shaded rest huts with high-velocity fans, mist-cooling stations and constant cool-water access. Indoor temperature kept under 28°C through midday.
Containment
6-foot fenced runs with buried lower edge and double-gate airlock at entry. We never let a Husky into a single-gated yard — they will exit.
Energy Outlets
Pre-dawn 5:30 AM and post-sunset 6:30 PM run sessions on open farmland. Pulling games, scent puzzles and structured rest fill midday.
Husky-Specific Boarding Protocols
Body-temperature checks twice daily
We check ear and pad temperature morning and afternoon. Any reading above breed-normal triggers immediate cooling and rest protocols.
No midday outdoor exposure
Between 10 AM and 5 PM, Huskies remain in shaded indoor zones. Trivandrum surface temperature on grass can exceed 40°C during summer afternoons.
Daily double-coat care
Undercoat raked daily to keep the cooling layer functional. Mats trap heat — they get removed on day one of any stay.
Hydration tracking
Multiple water bowls per Husky, refilled at every check-in. Daily intake noted; reduced drinking flagged immediately.
Solo or paired placement
Huskies are pack-oriented but can be intolerant of unfamiliar dogs. We assess on the trial visit and place in solo or paired runs only.
Vocal-tolerance management
Huskies talk. A lot. We have separated paddocks specifically so vocal Huskies do not stress quieter boarders.
Pre-sunrise / post-sunset exercise
Active sessions only between 5:30–8:00 AM and 6:30–8:30 PM in summer. Winter months allow extended morning sessions till 10 AM.
Vet partner on call
We have a 24/7 vet partner 8 km from the farm for any heat or hydration emergency — never had to use them, but the protocol is in place.
Husky Boarding FAQ
Is Trivandrum too hot for a Husky to board safely?
It can be — at any standard kennel. We have built specifically for double-coated arctic breeds: shaded covered zones, fans, cool-water access at all times, body-temperature checks twice daily, and exercise restricted to sub-30-degree windows (early morning, late evening). With these protocols, Huskies board safely year-round at Neolokam.
How do you stop a Husky from escaping?
Huskies climb, dig and squeeze. Our yard is enclosed by a 6-foot fence with a buried lower edge to prevent digging, double-gate airlock at the entry, and constant supervision during outdoor sessions. We never leave a Husky alone in the open.
Can my Husky's coat be shaved before boarding to keep him cool?
No — and we will refuse intake if a Husky arrives shaved. The double coat is the dog's primary cooling system; shaving it disables heat regulation and risks sunburn and hyperpigmentation. We rely on shade, water, airflow and rest scheduling, not coat removal.
Will my Husky get enough exercise during a long stay?
Yes. We run two structured sessions daily during cool windows, plus enrichment puzzles and pulling games midday. A 7-day stay covers more structured exercise than most Huskies get at home in two weeks.
