Monsoon Dog Boarding in Kerala — Dry Coats, Clean Paws, No Fungal Skin

Kerala monsoon is wet, long and humid. Dogs boarded in homes or kennels without proper drying systems end up with fungal skin, ear infections and matted coats. Neolokam monsoon boarding runs a strict covered-run + force-dryer protocol that keeps every dog dry, comfortable and infection-free through the four wettest months.

waterWhat Kerala Monsoon Actually Does to Dogs

Trivandrum sees the south-west monsoon June through September with rainfall regularly crossing 500–700 mm per month and ambient humidity stuck above 90% for weeks. The real problem is not the rain itself — it is what happens to a dog who never properly dries between outings. Damp fur traps moisture against skin, creating perfect conditions for fungal infections, hot spots, ear infections and matted undercoats.

Most home environments and most kennels in Kerala simply towel-wipe and move on. That is not enough. Towel-drying leaves the undercoat wet for hours. Within 48 hours of repeated incomplete drying, susceptible dogs (Labs, Goldens, Cocker Spaniels, Huskies, Indies with thick coats) start showing skin redness, scratching, and the early-warning ear shake. The Neolokam monsoon protocol is built specifically to break this cycle.

The Neolokam Monsoon Protocol — Step by Step

This is what every dog goes through after every wet exposure. No shortcuts.

01

Pre-Outing Coat Check

Before each outdoor session, we inspect the coat for wet patches from prior trips. Dogs with damp undercoats stay indoors until fully dry.

02

Covered Run Use

Outdoor activity during light or moderate rain happens under our covered run — a roofed open-sided structure that lets dogs move and play without getting fully soaked.

03

Mud-Paw Wash Station

Coming back inside, every dog passes through a paw-rinse station with diluted anti-fungal solution. Removes mud, fungal spores and any rotten organic matter from the paws.

04

Ear Check & Wipe

Quick cotton-wipe inspection of both ears. Wet ears are dabbed and recorded — repeated daily, the records flag any dog developing infection early.

05

Towel Pat-Down

Full body pat with absorbent towels. Removes 60–70% of surface water before any dryer is used.

06

Force-Dryer Session

High-velocity force dryer (the same kind salons use after a bath) blasts water out of the undercoat. 2–4 minutes for short coats, 6–10 minutes for double coats. Coat returns dry, not damp.

07

Belly + Armpit Final Check

These two zones stay wet longest and cause the most fungal trouble. We check both before clearing the dog back to rest.

08

Dehumidified Rest Area

Indoor rest area runs ceiling fans plus dehumidifiers on heavy-rain days. Dogs sleep on raised beds, never directly on damp floor.

What Dogs Do on Full Storm Days

When rain shuts down outdoor activity, indoor enrichment keeps dogs mentally tired even without physical exhaustion. A bored dog is a destructive dog — a stimulated one rests well.

Monsoon Boarding FAQs

Why does monsoon need a different boarding setup than the rest of the year?

Kerala monsoon brings 600+ mm rainfall some months and 90%+ humidity for weeks. Without proper drying after every outing, dogs develop fungal skin, hot spots, ear infections and matted coats within days. Wet concrete also raises slip-fall risk for seniors. Monsoon-specific protocols prevent all of it.

What does the drying protocol actually look like?

Every dog returning from a wet outing goes through paw rinse with anti-fungal solution, ear wipe, full towel pat-down, force-dryer over the full coat (2–4 min short coats, 6–10 min double coats), and an under-belly check. No wet dog re-enters the rest area.

Can my dog still get exercise during heavy rain days?

Yes. The covered run stays usable in any rain short of cyclonic. On full storm days, dogs do indoor enrichment — scent work, food puzzles, leash drills, calm-down conditioning. Mentally tired, physically rested.

Are double-coated breeds more at risk in monsoon?

Yes — Huskies, Shepherds, Goldens, and Indies with thick coats hold moisture longest in their undercoat. We give these dogs longer force-dryer sessions and check belly/armpit zones twice.

Does the membership work the same in monsoon?

Yes. All membership tiers (Essential, Villager Elite, Royal Resident) include monsoon protocol at no extra charge. Royal Resident members get unlimited drying-pavilion access on rainy days.
