Indie Dog Boarding in Trivandrum — Built for India's Native Breed
Indies — the Indian Pariah dog — are the most climate-suited, disease-resilient dogs you can own. They also get refused by most fancy kennels. Neolokam was started by Indie owners. Our 1.5-acre farm in Malayinkil welcomes indies, rescues and mixed breeds with the same care and rate as any pedigreed dog.
flagWhy Indies Belong on Open Farmland
Indies evolved over thousands of years on the Indian subcontinent. They handle Kerala humidity better than any imported breed, are remarkably disease-resistant, and need less veterinary intervention across a lifetime. The fact that they get less respect than pedigreed dogs is a market failure — not a reflection of the breed.
The trade-off: indies are smart, alert and sometimes wary of strangers and new dogs — adaptive traits from a self-fending heritage. Group boarding only works when each indie is assessed individually for social tolerance. We do that work.
How We Look After Indies
Behaviour-first intake
Every indie does a 90-minute trial visit before boarding. We map social tolerance, resource sensitivity, vehicle reactivity and exit behaviour — all relevant for honest placement.
Solo, paired or trio runs
Many indies prefer one or two consistent companions over a large group. We respect that. No forced socialisation — placement matches assessed temperament.
Rescue history honoured
If your indie was a street rescue or transitioned from a shelter, we plan extra settling visits, calmer placement and slower introductions. We have boarded dogs from Trivandrum street rescues, vet hospitals and ASRA-affiliated rescuers.
Climate-suited care
Indies thrive in Kerala weather. Our shaded farm, swimming pool access and grass-soil terrain match what they evolved for.
Health-first feeding
Most indies do well on simple chicken-rice or commercial Indian diets. We feed your prescribed food only — no group bowl, no surprise switches.
Vaccination + parasite check
Required: rabies, DHPPi, and a tick/flea check within 30 days. We assist arranging vet visits if your indie hasn't been formally checked recently.
Daily WhatsApp updates
Photos, short videos and a written note about how your dog spent the day — every day, regardless of breed.
Affordable long-stay rates
Same flat rate per night for every dog. Long-stay (10+ days) discount available. No surprise add-on fees mid-stay.
Indie Boarding FAQ
Do you accept rescued street dogs and recently adopted indies?
Yes — these are some of our favourite boarders. We require basic vaccination (rabies, DHPPi), a vet check confirming healthy weight and parasite-free status, and a behaviour assessment day. Recently rescued dogs may need extra trial visits to settle, which we plan with the owner.
Will my indie be safe with mixed breeds?
We never random-mix any dog. Indies are placed only with compatible temperaments after assessment — many indies prefer solo or paired runs over large groups, especially rescues with rough early socialisation. We respect each dog's social tolerance instead of forcing inclusion.
How is indie boarding priced compared to pedigreed dogs?
Same rate. Boarding cost is based on stay length, group placement and care complexity — never breed. We refuse the practice some kennels follow of charging foreign breeds more or 'desi dogs' less. Every dog gets the same shaded farm, the same supervised exercise and the same daily updates.
My indie has not been off the street long. Will boarding stress him?
Possibly — which is why we plan two or three trial visits before any overnight stay for newly rescued dogs. If the dog cannot settle even after a third visit, we will say so honestly and recommend pet-sitting at home as a better alternative.
