Pomeranian Grooming in Trivandrum — Done Right, At Your Home
The single most-damaged breed in Trivandrum salons is the Pomeranian. Most are shaved short for "summer relief" — which permanently destroys the double coat. Neolokam grooms Poms at your home, the right way: deshedding, sanitary trim, ear care, no clipper near the body coat.
warningWhy You Should Never Shave a Pomeranian
The Pomeranian double coat is two layers: a soft insulating undercoat and a coarse protective guard coat. Shaving destroys the structure. The guard coat does not regrow normally — many Trivandrum Poms shaved once never recover their full coat (this is called "post-clipping alopecia").
Worse: shaved Poms overheat more, not less, because the undercoat is what reflects heat. The cool-feeling skin underneath also burns in Kerala sun. Any salon that suggests "summer cut" for a Pom is wrong, and we will say so plainly.
What Pomeranian Grooming Actually Looks Like
Slicker brushing + line combing
We line-comb the entire coat to remove undercoat without breaking the guard hairs. 30–40 minutes of careful brushwork before any bath.
High-velocity dryer deshed
A force-dryer pushes loose undercoat out. This single step removes more shed hair than 10 brushes — and your home stays cleaner for weeks.
Bath with breed-appropriate shampoo
We use volumising, coat-protective shampoo — not generic anti-dandruff. Two lathers, full rinse, no residue (residue causes itching).
Sanitary, paw-pad and tail trim only
We scissor-trim the rear sanitary area, paw pads and tail tip for cleanliness. The body coat is never clipper-cut.
Ear pluck + clean
Pom ears trap hair and wax. We pluck inner-ear hair carefully and clean with vet-approved solution.
Nail trim + grind
Trim with clippers, smooth with grinder so there are no sharp edges scratching wooden floors.
Eye and tear-stain wipe
Pom eyes need daily wiping. We do a thorough cleaning and show owners the technique.
Final fluff with cool dryer
Cool-air finish to set the coat upright — the classic Pom look without any product.

Pomeranian Grooming FAQ
How often should I get my Pomeranian groomed?
A full deshed grooming every 6–8 weeks during normal months and every 4–5 weeks during heavy shed cycles (typically March–May and September–October in Kerala). Between sessions, line-comb at home twice a week to prevent matting under the armpits and behind the ears — the two areas Poms mat fastest.
My Pom was already shaved by another salon. Will the coat come back?
Honest answer: maybe not fully. Post-clipping alopecia is real. We can support recovery with proper omega-3 supplementation, regular gentle brushing, and avoiding any further clipper work, but full original coat texture may not return. Some Poms recover in 12–18 months; some never do. We do not recommend shaving it again to "reset" — that is a salon myth.
Can you groom puppies and senior Pomeranians?
Yes. Puppies under 4 months get a gentle introduction session — no full bath, just brushing, dryer-touch and handling. Senior Poms (10+) get shorter sessions with rest breaks. For both, the home environment is much less stressful than a salon, which is why we strongly recommend home grooming for them.
