Pug Boarding in Trivandrum — Cool, Calm and Carefully Watched
Pugs cannot regulate body heat the way most breeds can. In Trivandrum's humid coastal climate, that means standard kennels are flat-out unsafe. Neolokam built a brachycephalic-specific boarding programme — air-conditioned indoor rest options, restricted exercise windows, and constant breathing checks.
warningPugs and Heatstroke — A Real Trivandrum Risk
Brachycephalic syndrome — narrow nostrils, elongated soft palate, narrow trachea — means a Pug cannot pant efficiently. Panting is how dogs cool themselves. In a humid coastal city like Trivandrum, indoor temperatures inside enclosed kennels can climb 5–8 degrees above ambient. A Pug placed in such a setting can heatstroke within minutes of any exertion.
We do not take that risk. Every Pug at Neolokam stays in temperature-monitored shaded rest huts during peak heat. Outdoor sessions are limited to pre-7 AM and post-6 PM windows. We weigh the dog at check-in and check-out, and any concerning sign — bluish gums, laboured breathing, refusal to move — triggers immediate cooling protocol and vet contact.
What We Do Differently for Pugs
Climate-controlled rest hut
Tile-floor shaded indoor zone with fans and mist-cooling. AC option available for Pug-specific paid stays during summer months.
Breathing rate logged
Resting breath rate logged at check-in. Any 50%+ increase during stay flags a vet check. Standard kennels never measure this.
Fold-clean daily
Pug face folds trap moisture and yeast. We clean every fold daily with vet-safe wipes — most owners notice cleaner skin after a stay.
Eye care twice daily
Pug protruding eyes are prone to corneal abrasion. We check both eyes morning and evening, lubricate if needed.
No group rough play
Pugs paired only with calm, small breeds. We have a designated small-dog paddock — no large-breed cross-mixing.
Sub-30°C exercise only
Active sessions only when farm temperature is below 30°C and humidity below 75%. Hourly weather check at the desk during summer.
Diet sensitivity respected
Many Pugs have grain or chicken sensitivities. We feed your prescribed food only — no group bowl, no commercial treats.
Daily WhatsApp + photo updates

Pug Boarding FAQ
Why are Pugs higher-risk for boarding?
Pugs are brachycephalic — short-skulled, narrow-airway breeds that overheat 4–5x faster than longer-nosed dogs. In Kerala humidity, even normal play can trigger respiratory distress. Generic kennels do not adjust for this. We restrict midday outdoor exposure, run cooler indoor sessions, and check breathing rate at every interaction.
How do you keep Pugs cool indoors?
Tile-floored rest huts under heavy shade, high-velocity fans, mist-cooling stations and free cool-water access. Indoor temperature kept below 28°C through the hottest part of the day. Outdoor sessions only in early morning and late evening windows.
Can my Pug play with other dogs at boarding?
Yes — selectively. Pugs do well with other small, calm breeds. We never place a Pug with high-arousal players or large dogs that initiate rough chase. Pug play sessions are short, indoor, supervised and stopped at the first sign of laboured breathing.
Do you accept senior Pugs (10+ years)?
Yes, with a recent vet check (within 60 days) and written notes on any cardiac, respiratory or joint conditions. Senior Pugs board in our quiet wing with extra rest breaks and shorter, paced exercise. We have safely boarded 12-year-old Pugs with full owner peace of mind.
