Why Weekend Boarding Is Hard to Find in Trivandrum
Most cage-free facilities in India do not offer weekend or short-stay boarding. Here is why — and why Neolokam is different.
Management Overhead
Short stays require intake, settling-in, and discharge for every dog — the same process as a long stay. Many facilities find it unprofitable and simply do not offer weekend boarding.
Group Disruption Risk
Adding and removing dogs from a stable group every weekend disrupts social dynamics. Facilities without proper behaviour assessment find short-stay dogs harder to integrate safely.

How to Book a Weekend Stay — What You Need to Know
Weekend slots are limited. A few things to understand before you try to book.
Book 48–72 Hours in Advance (Minimum)
Standard weekends require at least 48–72 hours of advance notice. Weekend slots fill faster than weekday slots — especially Friday-to-Sunday.
Festival Weekends Need 5–7 Days Lead Time
Onam, Vishu, Christmas, and long-weekend holidays are the busiest periods. Book at least 5–7 days in advance. We cannot accommodate last-minute festival weekend requests.
First-Time Dogs Need a Trial Visit First
If your dog has never been to Neolokam, a weekend stay cannot be the first visit. A trial visit (any morning, 6–9 AM) and behaviour assessment must happen first — plan ahead.
Regulars Get Priority
Members who board regularly are given first access to weekend slots during high-demand periods. If you plan to use weekend boarding frequently, annual membership is the right choice.

How early should I book a weekend boarding stay?
For a standard weekend (Friday to Sunday), book at least 48–72 hours in advance. During festival weekends, Onam week, Christmas, and public holidays, demand is very high — book at least 5–7 days ahead. If you have a specific weekend in mind, WhatsApp us as early as possible to check availability and confirm the slot.
Is the quality different for short stays vs long stays?
No. The farm routine, group supervision, home-cooked food, and daily updates are identical whether your dog stays for 1 night or 30 nights. Neolokam does not have a 'basic' mode for short stays. Every dog in the farm receives the same standard of care — because the farm operates as a farm, not as a scaled service.
Can my dog do a single overnight stay?
Yes. A single overnight (Friday drop-off, Saturday morning pick-up) is the shortest stay Neolokam accommodates. For first-time boarders, we actually recommend starting with a single overnight before committing to a longer stay — it gives your dog a low-stakes first experience at the farm.
Does weekend boarding count against my annual membership days?
Yes. Annual membership includes 30 boarding days. A Friday-to-Monday weekend stay (3 nights) uses 3 of your 30 included days. This is still excellent value — the per-day cost under membership for a 3-night weekend stay is significantly lower than any other cage-free boarding option in Trivandrum.
