When Kerala Pet Owners Need Long-Stay Boarding

Long-stay boarding is not an afterthought — it is a planned, structured service for dog owners whose lives require extended periods away from home.

flight

Expats & International Travel

Returning home for an extended holiday, work deputation abroad, or family event in another country. Long stays that are planned weeks in advance — Neolokam handles the full period with weekly owner updates.

medical_services

Medical Treatment

Extended hospitalisation, surgery recovery, or treatment requiring you to be away from home for 1–3 weeks. Knowing your dog is on the farm and cared for professionally removes a significant source of stress during a difficult period.

festival

Kerala Festivals & Family Travel

Onam, Vishu, and Christmas involve multi-day travel to ancestral homes across Kerala — not always practical with a dog. A 5–10 day festival boarding stay lets you celebrate with family without leaving your dog home alone.

work

Work Assignments

Project deputation to another city, a 2–3 week training programme, or a work travel stint where commuting back is not practical. Monthly boarders from Technopark and IT sector are among Neolokam's most regular long-stay clients.

How Long-Stay Dogs Settle In — Phase by Phase

Long stays are easier on dogs than most owners expect — once the adjustment phase is complete. Here is what actually happens.

Days 1–3

Adjustment Phase

Most dogs test the new environment — reduced appetite, initial restlessness, more vocal behaviour. This is completely normal. Our staff does not force interaction; they allow dogs to acclimatise at their own pace.

Days 4–7

Settling Phase

By day 4–5, the farm routine becomes familiar. Dogs start eating normally, sleeping better, and engaging with the group more willingly. Owners often notice the improvement in the daily photo updates from this point.

Week 2+

Comfortable & Thriving

Long-stay dogs from week 2 onwards are fully integrated — they know the feeding schedule, the play groups, the farm trails, and the swimming pool routine. Many long-stay dogs show better behaviour and lower anxiety than in a home where they spend long hours alone.

The farm routine is the secret to long-stay success.

Predictability — same feeding time, same play groups, same farm trails — is deeply calming for dogs. A structured farm day reduces separation anxiety far more effectively than a home environment where the dog is alone for 8–10 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my dog board for a whole month at Neolokam?

Yes. The annual membership plan includes 30 boarding days that can be used in any combination — a full 30-day continuous stay, or split across multiple stays throughout the year. For a continuous 30-day stay, we recommend a trial visit and at least one short stay (4–5 days) beforehand so the long stay is not your dog's first time at the farm.

What happens if my dog gets sick during a long stay?

Neolokam has a working relationship with local vets in Trivandrum. If your dog shows signs of illness, the owner is contacted immediately and we take your dog to the vet with your authorisation. You are kept informed at every step. For this reason, we ask that all long-stay owners leave their vet's contact details and confirm whether they authorise emergency vet visits in their absence.

How do dogs cope emotionally with longer boarding?

The adjustment period (first 3–5 days) can be hard for some dogs, but long stays are often easier on dogs than a series of short stays. After the adjustment phase, the farm routine becomes their routine — structured, predictable, and social. Many long-stay dogs are more relaxed by week 2 than they are in a home where they spend hours alone. The key is that long stays should not be rushed — a trial visit and at least one short stay first makes the long stay significantly easier.

Is membership the most cost-effective option for long stays?

For any dog that boards 7 or more days per year, the annual membership is almost always more cost-effective than per-day rates. The membership (from Rs.11,111/year) includes 30 boarding days — which means a 7-day stay already represents strong value. For a full 30-day continuous stay, the per-day cost under membership is a fraction of standard per-day boarding rates in Trivandrum.
