Puppy Boarding in Trivandrum — Cage-Free Farm Stay at Neolokam
Puppies are not small adult dogs. They need different supervision, different group dynamics, and an environment that builds positive associations — not kennel trauma. Neolokam's cage-free farm provides exactly that: open land, experienced trainers, and age-appropriate group boarding.
Why Cage-Free Boarding Is Especially Critical for Puppies
The behavioural window between 8 weeks and 6 months is the most critical period of a dog's life. What happens during this time — the environments, the social experiences, the associations formed — is largely irreversible. Kennel trauma at the puppy stage causes lasting damage.
What Traditional Kennels Do to Puppies
- closeConfinement in cages during the critical socialisation window
- closeExposure to fear and stress before positive associations are formed
- closeRandom mixing with unknown adult dogs — often traumatic
- closeHandlers who manage, not trainers who shape behaviour
- closeNo assessment — puppies go in regardless of stress signals
- closeAdult behaviours like fear, aggression, and anxiety trace back to this

How Neolokam Handles Puppies Differently
Every decision in puppy boarding is made with long-term behaviour in mind — not just getting through the stay.
Separate Puppy Groups
Puppies are never placed with adult dogs in open play. They are grouped with dogs of similar age, size, and energy level. Correct group placement at the puppy stage shapes social behaviour for life.
Stress Monitoring
Puppies show stress differently from adult dogs — yawning, lip licking, hiding, and loss of appetite are early signs. Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to puppy stress signals before they escalate.
Your Puppy's Own Food (First Visits)
For the first few stays, we recommend bringing your puppy's current food from home. Sudden diet changes during boarding cause digestive upset. We maintain their routine until they are fully settled.
Positive Behaviour Foundation
The puppy stage is when behavioural patterns are hardwired. Every interaction at Neolokam is managed by experienced trainers who understand that positive associations formed now determine the adult dog your puppy becomes.
Vaccination Requirements for Puppy Boarding
These are not arbitrary rules — they protect your puppy and every other dog at Neolokam. A group farm setting with a partially vaccinated puppy is dangerous for everyone involved.
DHPPiL (6-in-1 or 7-in-1)
REQUIREDFirst dose at 6–8 weeks, booster at 10–12 weeks, final at 14–16 weeks
Rabies Vaccine
REQUIREDFirst dose at 3 months (12 weeks), mandatory before boarding
Kennel Cough (Bordetella)
STRONGLY RECOMMENDEDStrongly recommended before group boarding — given at any age after 8 weeks
Leptospirosis
STRONGLY RECOMMENDEDIncluded in 7-in-1 vaccine — confirm with your vet
Bring your puppy's vaccination card to the trial visit. Boarding confirmation is subject to vaccination records being up to date. No exceptions.
How the Mandatory Trial Visit Works for Puppies
The trial visit is even more important for puppies than adult dogs. It sets the tone for every future interaction with Neolokam.
You Both Come Together
You bring your puppy during 6–9 AM. You stay on site during the first visit. This allows your puppy to explore with the security of your presence — and lets our staff assess their responses honestly.
Assessment & Temperament Read
We observe how your puppy responds to new smells, sounds, spaces, and other dogs. Energy level, social confidence, stress signals, and playfulness are all noted. This determines group placement.
Plan & Book with Confidence
After the trial, you understand exactly how your puppy responded to the farm. We discuss dietary needs, first-stay duration, and any special considerations. Then booking for boarding begins.
Puppy Boarding FAQ
The questions every new puppy owner in Trivandrum asks before their first boarding.
Can I board a 3-month-old puppy?
Not yet. We require all puppies to be fully vaccinated before they join any group setting at Neolokam. This typically means they must have completed their full DHPPiL series and received their rabies vaccine — which is usually done by 4 months of age. A puppy that has received only one or two vaccine doses is at serious risk of picking up diseases in a group environment, even a clean one. Vaccination completion is non-negotiable for the safety of your puppy and all other dogs at the farm.
What vaccinations does my puppy need before boarding?
Your puppy must have: (1) Full DHPPiL series — 3 doses given at 6–8 weeks, 10–12 weeks, and 14–16 weeks; (2) Rabies vaccine — first dose at 3 months. We strongly recommend the Kennel Cough (Bordetella) vaccine in addition, as group environments increase exposure risk. Bring your puppy's vaccination card to the trial visit — we will review it before any boarding is confirmed.
Will my puppy be with adult dogs?
No. Puppies are placed in age-appropriate groups only. At Neolokam, we do not mix young puppies with adult dogs during open play — the size, energy, and behavioural differences create unnecessary risk and stress for the puppy. Your puppy will play with other puppies or young dogs that have been assessed for compatible energy and temperament. As your dog matures, their group placement is reassessed.
My puppy has never been away from home. How do I prepare them?
Start with the mandatory trial visit — this is exactly what it is for. You come with your puppy during 6–9 AM, stay on site, and let us assess how they respond to the farm environment, other dogs, and our staff. Most puppies adapt faster than their owners expect. After the trial, a short staycation (day visit) before the first overnight stay is a sensible progression. The gradual introduction approach is what prevents the separation anxiety and boarding stress that poorly managed first stays create.
