Dog tick bath in Trivandrum: what a medicated bath can and cannot do
Neolokam's medicated bath for skin issues costs ₹2,200 plus 18% GST and is done at your home in Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) as part of a complete groom. It is not a tick treatment. Ticks are controlled with a vet-recommended preventive, and the groomers ask you to give one before the groom. A medicated bath helps when your vet has identified a skin problem that the right shampoo can treat.

Why a bath will not fix a tick problem
Searching for a "dog tick wash" is understandable when you find ticks on your dog. But a bath, even with a strong shampoo, is a poor way to deal with them, for three reasons.
- It does not last. Whatever effect a shampoo has is largely rinsed away, so the dog can pick up new ticks on its next walk or in its own yard the same day.
- The ticks you can see are only part of the problem. Others are often waiting in grass, leaf litter, bedding, kennel corners and cracks in walls, where a bath cannot reach.
- Ticks carry disease. Tick fever is a real risk for dogs in Kerala, and it needs ongoing prevention rather than an occasional wash.
The tools that work are the tick preventives your vet recommends, such as spot-on treatments, tablets or collars, chosen for your dog's age, weight and health and given on the schedule your vet sets. That is why Neolokam does not sell a bath as tick treatment.
What the groomers ask for before they come
Before a doorstep groom, the team asks for two things.
- Ticks: give your dog a vet-recommended tick treatment before the groom. A heavy tick load makes grooming uncomfortable for the dog, ticks can drop off in your home during the session, and the groomers move between households.
- Skin problems: tell the team about any skin condition before booking. A contagious condition needs clearance from your vet first.
These rules are also why standalone grooming happens only at the customer's home, never at the farm. Keeping dogs from different homes apart reduces the risk of skin disease spreading. When you message, a few clear photos of the problem area help the team understand what they are dealing with.
When a medicated bath does help
A medicated bath uses a medicated shampoo to help with a skin problem, usually one your vet has looked at, such as a bacterial or fungal skin infection or a scaling, greasy skin condition. Kerala's humidity makes these more common, especially in dense coats that stay damp.
Done properly, a medicated bath is slower than a normal one:
- The coat is cleaned first so the shampoo can reach the skin.
- The shampoo is left on for about 10 minutes, or the contact time your vet gives you.
- It is rinsed out thoroughly, because residue can irritate skin that is already sore.
- The coat is dried to the skin, since a damp coat undoes much of the good.
If your vet has prescribed a specific shampoo or schedule, mention it when you book and ask how the team will work with it. Our guide to anti-tick and medicated baths explains the difference in more detail.
When it is a vet visit, not a groom
Some signs mean your dog should see a vet before anyone books a bath:
- Fever, tiredness, loss of appetite, pale gums or dark urine, which can be signs of tick fever and need urgent attention.
- Open, bleeding or weeping sores, or skin that is hot and very painful to touch.
- Patches of hair loss that are spreading, or intense scratching that keeps your dog awake.
- A sudden swelling, or a tick that has left a lump that is getting bigger.
In those cases, a groom can wait. Once your vet has made a diagnosis and says grooming is fine, share their advice with the team.
A tick routine for Kerala homes
Between vet-recommended treatments, a simple routine catches most problems early:
- Check your dog daily, especially after walks: inside and behind the ears, between the toes, under the collar, the armpits and the groin.
- If you find a tick, remove it with a tick remover or fine tweezers held close to the skin, and do not crush it with your fingers. Ask your vet to show you if you are unsure.
- Keep grass short and clear leaf litter where your dog rests, and wash bedding regularly.
- Treat every dog in the household on the schedule your vet advises, not just the one that has ticks.

Does a tick bath kill all the ticks on my dog?
No bath gives lasting tick control. A shampoo is mostly rinsed away, and many ticks live in the yard, bedding and walls rather than on the dog. Tick control comes from a vet-recommended preventive such as a spot-on, tablet or collar, given on schedule. Neolokam asks owners to give one before any groom.
How much does a medicated bath for dogs cost in Trivandrum?
Neolokam's medicated bath for skin issues is ₹2,200 plus 18% GST, done at your home as part of a complete groom that also covers nails, ears, trims and a blow-dry. Travel, two groomers and equipment are included. Tell the team about the skin problem before booking, and share your vet's advice if you have it.
My dog has ticks right now. Can I still book a groom?
Treat the ticks first. Neolokam's groomers ask owners to give a vet-recommended tick treatment before the groom, because a heavy tick load is uncomfortable for the dog and ticks can drop off during the session. Once the treatment has been given as your vet advised, message the team to book a date.
What is the difference between an anti-tick bath and a medicated bath?
An anti-tick bath is meant to act on ticks and fleas, but its effect is short-lived and it does not replace vet-recommended prevention. A medicated bath uses a medicated shampoo, usually left on for about 10 minutes, to help treat a skin condition such as an infection. Neolokam offers the medicated bath for skin issues at ₹2,200 plus GST.
Should my vet see my dog before a medicated bath?
Yes, ideally. Itching and hair loss have many causes, and the right shampoo depends on the cause. A vet can tell you whether a medicated bath will help, which shampoo to use and how long to leave it on. Contagious skin conditions need vet clearance before Neolokam's groomers can groom your dog at home.
Can a dog with a skin infection be groomed at home?
It depends on the condition. Tell Neolokam's team about any skin problem before booking, with photos if possible. Contagious conditions need clearance from your vet first. Once your vet agrees, a medicated bath at your home costs ₹2,200 plus GST. Standalone grooming never happens at the farm, which keeps dogs from different homes apart.
