Why a Husky is in the ₹2,200 category
A Siberian Husky carries a dense, soft undercoat under a layer of straighter guard hairs. It was built for Arctic cold, and there is a great deal of it. Washing shampoo through that undercoat, rinsing it out and drying it properly takes far longer than a short-coated dog of the same size, which is why Huskies and similar coats sit in the ₹2,200 category.
That price covers the complete groom: brushing and combing, a shampoo bath, nail cutting, ear cleaning, hygiene and paw-pad trimming, light shaping of the feet and tail, a full blow-dry and finish. It is the same price whether your Husky is shedding lightly or blowing its whole coat.
Why shaving a Husky backfires in Kerala heat
This is the question we hear most from Husky owners in Trivandrum, usually in April. It feels logical: less coat, cooler dog. It does not work that way.
- A Husky's coat traps a layer of air that insulates against heat as well as cold, and the guard hairs shade the skin from direct sun.
- Shaved skin is exposed to sunburn, insect bites and scratches.
- Double coats that are shaved can grow back patchy, slowly or with a different texture, and some never fully recover.
What keeps a Husky comfortable in Kerala is getting the dead undercoat out so air can move through the coat, and managing the dog's day: shade, fans or a cool floor, constant fresh water, and exercise only in the early morning and evening. A full shave is only considered when matting is so bad that brushing would hurt, which is uncommon in a well-kept Husky.
Coat blow and undercoat removal
Most Huskies 'blow' their coat roughly twice a year, dropping the undercoat in tufts and clumps over a few weeks. In Kerala, without a real winter, some Huskies shed more steadily instead, with smaller peaks.
During a blow, a groom makes the biggest difference. The team brushes out as much loose undercoat as possible before the bath, the bath and rinse loosen more, and a thorough blow-dry lifts out the rest. Expect a large pile of fur. The coat that remains is lighter, cleaner and lets air reach the skin.
An undercoat that is left in sits damp against the skin in humid weather, which can lead to itching, odour and skin problems. If your Husky already has a skin issue, tell the team before booking; a medicated bath is the same ₹2,200, and contagious conditions need vet clearance first.
Grooming day with a Husky
Huskies are famously vocal, and many will protest loudly at nail cuts and the dryer without being aggressive. Two groomers means one can hold and calm while the other works. A few things help:
- Walk your Husky in the cool of the morning before the visit, so it is a little tired.
- Keep the area ready: accessible water, one bucket and a raised, non-slip spot in the shade, away from the midday sun.
- Give a vet-recommended tick treatment beforehand if you have seen ticks.
- Tell the team if your dog has snapped at a groomer or vet before. Reactive dogs are handled with suitable precautions, subject to safety suitability.
Huskies are naturally clean dogs with little body odour, so they do not need frequent bathing. Most dogs do well with a bath about once a month, adjusted to skin, coat and your vet's advice.
Between grooms, and when you travel
Brush two or three times a week with an undercoat rake and a slicker brush, and daily during a coat blow. Work in sections down to the skin, especially behind the ears, on the hind legs and at the base of the tail. Do not bathe at home and leave the coat to air-dry; a half-dry Husky undercoat stays damp for hours.
If you are going away, Neolokam's Husky boarding keeps the dog on a shaded farm with water play and heat-aware routines, and dogs already boarding are groomed during their stay.

How much does Husky grooming cost in Trivandrum?
Neolokam grooms Huskies at home for ₹2,200 plus 18% GST, the published price for large or heavy-coated breeds. It covers the complete groom: brushing out loose undercoat, shampoo bath, full blow-dry, nail cutting, ear cleaning, hygiene and paw-pad trim and finish. Is there Husky grooming near me in Trivandrum?
Neolokam's groomers come to your home in Trivandrum, so your Husky does not need a car journey in the heat. Share your area when you book and the team confirms it is covered and offers a time. Standalone grooming is only done at homes, never at the farm, to reduce the risk of spreading skin disease.
Should I shave my Husky in Kerala?
No. A Husky's double coat insulates against heat as well as cold and shades the skin from sun. Shaving exposes the skin to sunburn and insect bites, and the coat can grow back patchy. Removing dead undercoat, shade, fans, fresh water and exercise in cool hours keep a Husky far more comfortable than a shave.
How often does a Husky blow its coat?
Most Huskies blow their coat roughly twice a year, shedding undercoat heavily for a few weeks. In Kerala, with no real winter, some shed more steadily with smaller peaks. Brush daily during a blow and two or three times a week otherwise, and book a professional groom when the shedding is at its heaviest.
How often should I bathe my Husky?
Not often. Huskies are naturally clean dogs with little body odour. Most dogs do well with a bath about once a month, adjusted to their skin, coat and your vet's advice. The bigger risk is bathing at home and leaving the thick undercoat to air-dry, because it stays damp against the skin for hours in Kerala humidity.
Can my Husky be groomed while boarding?
Yes. Dogs already boarding at the Neolokam farm are groomed during their stay, so you do not need a separate home visit before pickup. Husky boarding includes a shaded farm, water play and routines planned around the heat. Ask the team about the boarding price for your dates and your dog's needs.
