Pet grooming in Balaramapuram: the groomers come to your house

Balaramapuram is the handloom town on the highway between Nemom and Neyyattinkara, where the road branches towards Vizhinjam and towards Kattakada. Away from the busy junction, most families live in independent houses, many of them extended or joint families, often with a weaving shed or workshop in the compound.

Dogs in these homes tend to be Indies, Labradors, Spitz and German Shepherds that move between the verandah, the yard and the street gate. They get dusty and pick up ticks, and few of them are used to riding in a vehicle. That is exactly the case where a doorstep groom helps: no transport, no strange waiting room, and the dog is groomed where it feels at home.

In a joint family someone is usually at home, which makes booking easy, but the house is rarely quiet. The groomers need a corner where your dog can be handled calmly. Before they arrive:

• Pick a raised, non-slip spot, such as a verandah step, a low wall or a sturdy table with a mat, away from the loom shed and the main gate.
• Make sure water is easy to reach, from a tap, tank outlet or well-side pipe.
• Keep one bucket ready.
• Ask children to watch from a distance so the dog stays settled.

Two groomers work as a pair, one holding and calming the dog while the other works. That matters for dogs that are fine with family but wary of strangers.

Every complete groom includes nail cutting, ear cleaning, brushing and combing, a shampoo bath, hygiene and paw-pad trimming, scissor shaping of the head, belly and tail, and a blow-dry and finish. The regular price is ₹1,700 plus 18% GST.

A reactive or aggressive dog, or a zero-trim full shave, costs ₹2,000 plus GST; reactive dogs are accepted subject to safety suitability. Large or heavy-coated breeds, or a medicated bath for skin issues, cost ₹2,200 plus GST.

There is no published price for a bath only, nails only or a spa-only visit. If you only want one part done, ask on WhatsApp and the team will tell you what is possible.

Dogs that roam a yard pick up ticks easily, and Kerala's humidity does not help. Give a vet-recommended tick treatment before the groom; a bath on its own will not deal with a tick problem. If your dog has a rash, bald patches or keeps scratching, tell the team before booking. A contagious skin condition needs vet clearance first.

Standalone grooming is only done at your home, never at the farm, so skin problems are not passed between dogs. Most dogs do well with a bath about once a month; adjust that to your dog's skin, coat and your vet's advice. Very matted coats may need a full shave, which is often the kindest choice.
